In Silvana Mello's work, the techniques are used to communicate feelings. She uses enamel painting on tiles to express the comfort of home or carving a skateboard (deck) to make woodprints to express the aggressiveness of urban life. In the same way, she embroiders canvas or silk, sews dolls, makes assemblages, collages, video installations or a simple painted canvas in conservative style. Her imagery is influenced by retro 50's advertisements and she explores the irony of that fake happiness. Her influences include: Hopper, Robert Williams, Arthur Bispo do Rosário, Mexican tiles.
